How Does your Media Product Represent Particular Social Groups?

My media products represent my Target audience of females ages twenty to thirty and are in an ABC1 Income, who enjoy fashion and their status. Throgh my products i have implied that my target audience possess a variety of desirable qualities, i have obviously throuought my media products tried to flatter my target audience in a way that entices them to buy the magazine. I have implied though the clothing that my models are wearing in my photos that my audience has a good eye for fashion and trends, but also that they have a good eye for beauty and an appriciation for it also as my models are good looking, this also acts as a form of flattery because my audience idenitfys with the models it suggests that they too are beautiful and posses the quality of beauty.

The flattering feminine material also allows the audience to identify with the model within thedouble page spread, she is beautiful and inteligent as they find from the interview, and this allwos then to connect aspects pf their own personality with her's.

Through the formal language i have used i have represented my target audience as being intelingent and fluent in english, thus suggesting that they are academic and able. By interviewing an artist that is within the same demographic as my target audience it allows them to identify with her and use her as almost a role model, because She is using correct english without slang suggesting that he is from middle to upper class which is the area that my target audiece will be looking to represent themselfs as part of. This represents my target audience as being able to be successful and important within society.

through the double page spread i have used correct english and no slang.

The colour scheme of my products (Red,Pink,Black and White) have connotations of feminine class and stature, and because my target audience would be connecting themselves with the colors and the magazine this suggests that they are high achieving but also that they have the ability to seem above other people, they have the qualities of class and allure, so thats the reason why they choose this magazine because to them it mirrors there lifestyle.

I have left out things like FREEBIES and COMPETITIONS as I feel that this represents my target audience as being wealthy and comfortable in luxuries that, it suggests to them that they do not need nor want for anything and that a freebie would lower their tone, it representes them as being independant and able within what they have.

In this image my audience is presented with a long mid shot of my model who is in the centre of the image, covered by a Chiffon veil. The veil has connotations of Marrige and the steriotypical things that females are asscociated with and are expected to be thinking about, however because my model looks as though she is trapped underneath the veil this could be suggesting that she is challenging this steriotype and is trying to escape from the idea of being wedded and settling down to family life and this is an echo of the way in which my media product represents its target audience: them wanting to go out and explore the world and be powerful and successful. The slightly low angle of the shot gives the model the power within the image as she is looking down onto the audience, therefore this reinforces the representation of the women who read this magazine identifying with the powerful women featured within it. The colours within the image of pink and black represent the model as being feminine yet mysterious also and this echos the representaion of the target audience.

Through my products I have reinforced striotypes about females having to be beautiful and fashionable with interests in makeup and clothes however i have challenged steriotypes in the way that i have represented women as being the breadwinners so therefore wealthy and powerful within society which is usually the male steriotype, my magazine products reinforce the growing steriotype of female domination and power.

  1. A good beginning exploring how you have represented your social group through what you have implied about their interests and saspirations. I'd now like you to look in detail at one of your images and explore how it represents aspirational, middle class females, thorugh posture, gesture, expression, clothes etc.
