Audience Reaserch Questionaire Analysis
Before we made our college magazine covers we did some basic audience reaserch, in the form of a questionairre. This was to find out what the consumer basis was for our product. MY questionairree has 16 respondants all of whom have different interests and oppinions. I tried to vary the type of people that I asked to get a better representation about my target audience.
Of all of my repondants 9 where female and 7 where male and from this we can assume that a larger base of the audience shall be female so I would have to develp the magazine to cater to the female needs. However I feel that because the amount of male respondants is so close to that of the female respondants that I have to create a magazine that caters for both genders needs.
When asked what there favorite course was the respondants answers showed that 5 prefered artistic subjects 3 prefered active subjects, 3 prefered thought provoking subjects and 5 prefered the curriculum english maths or science. this showed me that there is no clear favorite type of subject that the magazine could focus on for its audience. However there is a high amount of artistic and curricular prefernces showing that the magazine could publish this more often than others to appeal to its audience.
When asked about how often they would want to see the magazine published the respondants prefered to have the magazine as a monthly installment as they would not want to have to pay for it too often. The respondants oped less to have it published less often.
When asked about the pricing of the magazine 12 respondants wanted it to be between 50p and £1 so that it was not a huge chunk of there money gone, this would likely be because, in general students do not have much money to spare however they would still get something of a decent quality for this price. 2 repondants wanted it to be priced under 50p however it would not be able to be published at a high quality for this price. 2 other respondants wasnted it to be priced between £1 and £2 however i feel that this would be too expencive for the average student and would therefore cut my audience size.
when asked why they read a magazine the majority of the repondants answered with to be entertained, 14 out of the 16 respondants this shows me that the magazine would have to be entertaining and interesting rather than informative. i would have to approach the magazine with a different tone than i would with annother. Because the audience would prefer the magazine to be entertaining i must put in a large amount of different contents into it such as quizzes and interviews so that it keeps the audience entertained.
Finally I asked the respondants about the things that they are most likely to buy with there disposable income to give me a good starting point for the type of adverts to have within the magazine. 7 of the repsondants replied with clothing as there top buy, food is the seccind most popular with 4 respondnats, then films with three respondants and gig tickets with two. this shows that the most effective advertizing would be by the clothing industry however a mix of adverts aimed at students would be effective also.
